- What is real-time, interactive driving simulation?
Real-time, interactive driving simulation refers to simulating the process of driving a vehicle within a virtual environment. Using a set of driver controls (i.e., steering wheel and pedals), the user interacts with a simulated vehicle and navigates it in real-time through a virtual driving environment.
- What can driving simulation do?
As computer-based software, driving simulation has an inherent flexibility that allows the designer to simulated many aspects of the driving task. While driving simulators can be designed to mimic very closely the real world driving environment, they can also be designed to take advantage of the fact that it is virtual reality. As such, driving simulation is only limited by the imagination and technology of its users and designers.
- Who needs driving simulation?
Anyone who requires a well defined task where cognitive functioning, visual perception, psychomotor skills or psycho physiological measures are required. Driving simulation can do many things depending on your overall goals. In general, driving simulation can provide a safe and highly-controlled environment for driving research, assessment, and training applications. Often, these applications involve placing drivers in situations that would normally be too cost-prohibitive or too dangerous to perform in a real vehicle on an actual road.
- What level of realism do I need in a driving simulator?
It is not always the case that greater realism or simulator fidelity makes a more successful simulator system. The level of realism for your driving simulator greatly depends on 1) your overall simulation goals, 2) who your drivers will be, 3) what you intend to measure, and 4) the environment in which the simulator will operate. STISIM Drive® can provide a variety of simulator fidelity levels in regards to visual graphics, vehicle dynamics, driver controls and instrument panels. As such, it is best to provide us with as much information as possible in regards to your specific application before we can make any fidelity recommendations.
- Are STISIM Drive® driving simulator products new in the market?
No, founded over two decades ago through a variety of government funded research grants and projects, STISIM Drive® became commercially available and has established itself as a global leader in terms of driving simulation users and applications.
- Why do customers choose STISIM Drive® products?
Customers choose STISIM Drive® as their simulation tool for several reasons. First, the flexibility of the system software (e.g., scenario design) and the hardware options (e.g., driver displays and controls) allow customers to tailor the simulator to their own specific financial and application requirements. Secondly, the strong background of STISIM Drive® in the field of driving research gives customers the insurance that their simulator data results will be valid and reliable. And thirdly, customers choose STISIM Drive® products and continue to choose our products because of the value-added customer support and services we make available to all our users.
- What are the features of STISIM Drive®?
STISIM Drive® comes with a variety of software features to meet your application needs. All models run on Windows? based personal computer systems, providing high speed graphics and high fidelity sound processing. Extensive 3D model and driving scenario libraries are provided with the ability to create/modify your own models and scenarios. A collection of interactive driving elements such as signal lights, pedestrians, and smart vehicle traffic are all included. Comprehensive driver and vehicle performance measures are available with results in summary or raw data formats. A convenient playback feature allows previous simulation drives to be replayed providing easy visual analysis, video recording, and specific driver training.
