Overview

HMD (Head Mounted Display) is ideal for achieving a wide field of view with a relatively inexpensive display device. With a HMD and head tracker, the driver can look down both ways on a cross street, and also look back at the blind spot for conflicting vehicles. HMD is particularly useful in embedded simulations where the user wants to take advantage of actual vehicle hardware without incurring the expense of a special instrumented cab.

Applications

Examples of police vehicle and school bus embedded simulations are shown below:

In the above embedded applications the drivers ware an HMD which displays the virtual driving environment while they are seated in a real vehicle. The simulator software is run on a lap top, and special sensors are mounted on the vehicle controls to convey driver actions to the computer. The sensors can be installed in less than an hour, so the embedded system can be easily moved from vehicle to vehicle. The embedded simulation system will run the same driving scenarios as any other version of STISIM Drive®. These driving scenarios are particularly easy to configure, and virtually any type of environment or traffic situation can be implemented as shown below:
