Overview

Simulation is ideal for safely and efficiently training and assessing drivers for military applications. Over the years STISIM has been applied to a range of applications associated with safety that would be of interest to the insurance industry. The STISIM Scenario Definition Language (SDL) allows driving scenarios to be designed that apply to a wide range of driving situations and vehicle types. STISIM Drive® has been used successfully to train and assess drivers, and the DATS (Driver Assessment and Training System) interface allows the setup of specific training and assessment applications.

Applications

• STISIM Drive® has been applied to training, assessment and demonstration of problems in driving with young drivers. This can apply to both on-duty and off-duty personnel activities.
• STISIM Drive® has recently shown that simulator trained drivers have a lower accident rate than traditionally trained drivers in California.
• A special version of STISIM Drive® can be used to demonstrate the problems associated with drunk driving.
• A special interface for STISIM Drive®, referred to as DATS can be use to tailor orientation and background information, and test drivers for knowledge acquisition and competency in driving simulation tests.
• A separate vehicle dynamics module, VDANL™, can be used with STISIM Drive® to program single unit and articulated vehicles with wheels and/or tracks.
