Novice Drivers

The STISIM Drive® driving simulator is a cost-effective driver training system with a broad range of customizable training scenarios that will reduce your program costs and enable your students to be confident and safe drivers!

Effective Solution

  • A fun, interactive alternative to traditional classroom and book training
With today's rich multi-media and high-tech digital lifestyles, students will find simulator training to be a fun and stimulating way to learn safe driving habits.
  • Reinforce safe driving behavior to reduce accidents during the dangerous first years of licensure
Driving simulation can expose novice drivers to hazardous driving situations that are rare in the real world. These situations are unpredictable and usually encountered after years of on-the-road driving. This will mean less stress for novice and teenage drivers (and their guardians) as they learn to recognize risky situations and how to handle them within the safe environment of simulated driving.
  • Immediate feedback for efficient training
STISIM Drive® provides instant driving assessments and performance analysis after each scenario Run. Students can immediately identify areas of weakness and learn the proper actions and reactions to be taken in a variety of situations. This helps develop sound driver behavior by repeatedly reinforcing appropriate driving behaviors and not risky ones.
  • Extensive, relevant, and focused learning curriculum
STIMSIM Drive™ provides students with a relevant, focused training curriculum tailored to each student's specific needs. A library of more than 50 standard scenarios has been developed according to DMV codes. These scenarios are customizable driving lessons, that include practical real-life situations such as changing lanes, turning, limited visibility conditions, traffic signs and signals, recognizing pedestrian crossing situations, freeway driving, rural roads, mountain driving, etc.

Benefits

  • Attract more students and keep them engaged in the learning process
Learning how to drive on a simulator is fun and stimulating. Incorporating simulators into your training system will give you an edge in attracting and retaining more students.
  • Replace costly and dangerous risks with safe virtual training
Because students get a chance to learn and practice their driving skills in a virtual environment first instead of in real driving situations, the risk of getting into accidents and incurring damages during the training stage is greatly reduced. Students that continue with on-the-road training will also benefit from more confidence and peace of mind knowing they are well-prepared for any situations that may arise.
  • Simulators are cost-effective and flexible
Adding simulators to your training program is more affordable than you may think. The basic package includes a desktop PC, display monitor, steering wheel, brake and a throttle pedals and our STISIM Drive® software. STISIM Drive® is well-suited for a variety of classroom settings. Whether your classroom has one or many desktop PCs available, we can create a combination that fits your budget and goal.
  • Easy integration and customizable content adds to your current curriculum
STISIM Drive® enriches your current curriculum rather than replaces it. The system is turnkey so even someone with little or no computer experience can have everything up and running quickly. Instructors can pick and choose from our extensive driving scenario library tailored for novice, intermediate, and advanced students or they can create their own scenarios using the Scenario Definition Language (SDL).

System Features

  • Less simulation sickness
Many researchers have recognized that STISIM Drive® causes less simulator sickness than other driving simulators in human subject research experiments. Less simulator sickness means fewer students will dropout. This makes the driver training program more efficient and cost-effective.
  • Scenario replay & wide range of data collection capabilities
The scenario replay function can be used to replay a previous run and even to create video files. Students and instructors can review these files and videos in order to determine which driving skills need improvement. The simulator also produces a report at the end of each scenario drive that includes such data as number of tickets (i.e. speeding, running red lights etc.), number of brake, throttle and steering inputs, and lane deviations (i.e. running off of the road or onto the wrong side of the road).
  • Driving Under Influence (DUI) module
Educating drivers about the dangers of driving while impaired is crucial. Our DUI Impaired Driving Demonstrator Module can be used in your training program to emphasize the danger of driving under influence. A custom interface allows the user to input the hypothetical number of drinks consumed, specifying the time the drinks were consumed, and the gender, age, and body type of the driver. The system will compute the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) according to the data keyed in. STISIM Drive® adjusts the time delays between steering inputs and vehicle response so that the driver will have the sensation of driving at the BAC level specified.
  • DATS module
The Driver Assessment and Training System (DATS) not only provides the opportunity to register and train individuals without the need for constant supervision, but it also tracks each individual's performance. The full customizable interface grants the user complete control over the construction and presentation of all training materials.
